Past instructors include Mary Gaitskill, Angela Flournoy, and James Hannaham, in addition to professional editors and literary agents. These craft-oriented classes are offered alongside courses designed to help emerging writers navigate the publishing industry. Workshops topics relate to the instructor’s unique skillset and literary sensibility, and single-day masterclasses offer students the chance to dive into subjects like narrative voice and story structure. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer financial support in addition to the incredible community and instruction these classes provide.”Ĭatapult began offering classes in their Manhattan offices in April 2015, and has since grown the program to over 60 classes per year. “Most writers struggle to fit a regular writing practice into their busy lives, especially in New York City, where time comes at a high cost,” said Electric Literature’s Executive Director Halimah Marcus.
